AMCHAM Member Companies Hopeful that New Government will Improve the Business Environment 

- AMCHAM releases 2022 Business Survey Report -

- More than 80% of respondents optimistic that investment in Korea will continue

- Korea-unique regulations, CEO risk, strict labor laws, high tax rates selected as key areas in need of improvement 

April 7, 2022 – On April 7, 2022, AMCHAM Korea released the results of the 2022 Business Survey.

The survey, which collected responses from more than 80 member companies between February 24 and March 25, was designed to gather opinions on the business environment in Korea ahead of the inauguration of the new government and provide insight to make Korea a more attractive investment destination.

According to the survey, feedback on Korea's overall business environment was mixed without any particular bias. Respondents specifically cited Korea-unique Standards, CEO risk, strict labor laws and high tax rates as key areas for improvement.

Regarding COVID-19, 4 out of 10 companies said they did not meet their growth targets last year, reportedly due to COVID-related supply chain problems, uncertain economic conditions, and other relevant issues that hindered sales. More than half of the companies surveyed expressed optimism about Korea's business prospects, while more than 80 percent of the companies surveyed expected investment in Korea to continue over the next two years.

In addition, South Korea was selected as the second most preferred destination for regional business headquarters in Asia after Singapore, confirming once again that Korea is an attractive investment destination for multinational companies.

Finally, a significant proportion of the companies surveyed believe that government policies in 2021 had a negative impact on business operations. Most reported expecting changes and improvements in policy with the new administration.

Later this month, AMCHAM will release the Korea-U.S. (KORUS) FTA Implementation Scorecard 2.0, which examines the concerns and suggestions of the global business community in Korea as it relates to the bilateral FTA.

암참 회원사들, 경영 환경 개선을 위해 새 정부에 바란다

- 암참, 2022 한국 비즈니스 환경 설문조사 실시 -

참여 기업의 80% 이상 향후 한국에 대한 투자가 지속될 것으로 낙관

한국만의 독특한 규제, CEO 리스크, 엄격한 노동법, 높은 세율 등 주요 개선 분야로 꼽아

2022년 04월 07일 – 주한미국상공회의소(암참; 회장 겸 대표이사 제임스 김)는 최근 암참 회원사를 대상으로 한 ‘2022년 비즈니스 환경 설문조사’ 결과를 발표했다. 지난 2월 24일부터 3월 25일까지 80개 이상의 암참 회원사가 참여한 가운데 실시된 이번 설문조사는 새 정부 출범을 앞두고 한국 內 비즈니스 환경에 대한 암참 회원사들의 의견을 취합하여 한국을 보다 매력적인 투자처로 만들기 위한 통찰력을 제공하기 위해 마련되었다.

설문조사에 따르면, 한국의 전반적인 비즈니스 환경에 대한 피드백은 뚜렷한 편중 없이 혼재된 양상을 보이는 것으로 나타난 가운데 회원사들은 특별히 한국만의 독특한 규제, CEO 리스크, 엄격한 노동법, 높은 세율 등을 주요 개선 분야로 꼽았다. COVID-19 영향에 관련하여는 10개 중 약 4개의 기업이 지난해 성장 목표를 달성하지 못했다고 응답했는데, 이는 COVID-19로 인한 공급망 문제, 불확실한 경제 상황 및 매출을 저해하는 코로나 관련 이슈 등의 원인으로 인한 것으로 조사되었다. 한편 설문에 참여한 기업의 절반 이상이 한국의 비즈니스 전망에 대해 낙관적이라고 밝혔으며, 참여 기업의 80% 이상은 향후 2년 간 한국에 대한 투자가 지속될 것으로 예상했다.

또한 대한민국은 싱가포르에 이어 두 번째로 아시아 지역본부로 적합한 지역으로 꼽혀, 한국이 다국적 기업들에게 매력적인 투자처임을 다시 한번 확인하는 계기가 되었다. 마지막으로 설문에 참여한 기업 중 상당수는 2021년 정부 정책이 비즈니스 운영에 부정적인 영향을 끼쳤다고 여기고 있으며, 대부분은 새 정부와 함께 정부 정책의 변화 및 개선을 기대하고 있는 것으로 나타났다.

암참은 또한 이번 달 말 추가적으로 한·미 FTA 이행 스코어카드(KORUS FTA Implementation Scorecard)를 공개, 이를 통해 양국간 FTA와 관련하여 한국 內 글로벌 비즈니스 커뮤니티가 가진 산업별 주요 현안 및 제안 사항을 전달할 예정이다.
